YAY!

I have finally gotten my Thinksound earbuds! They use no new plastic except for a tiny bit on the packaging. They are beautiful. I lost my old ones so my mom said I could get these fro a Christmas present. They are a little pricey. Well worth it, though. My recycled bag is slowly taking shape. It really is pretty. It looks like a rainbow. I will put a picture of my new earbuds!!!

Happy Thanksgiving!

We celebrated my mother's birthday yesterday. I made her a gift with no plastic. I made her earrings made with my old earring backs. On the bottom I made purple (her favorite color) hearts. They were pretty. I put the earrings in a beautiful, heart shaped, mother of pearl case. I'll post a picture when I get a chance. I think hand-made gifts are always the best not only because they use almost no plastic, but also because it was a gift of that person's time.

Hi! I just made some really cool ornaments for our Christmas tree. I made them out of clay because all the pre-packaged ones were wrapped in plastic. Some were even double wrapped! So my mom and I decided to make our own. My sister even helped. I made sweets like pies, cakes, lollipops, and gingerbread men out of the clay. We are baking them now. I hope to post pictures of them soon!

I just watched the most amazing show about plastic. It talked about the Pacific gyre, plastic beaches, and, of course, landfills. It talked about recycling, too. It's astonishing, they even went into a factory that chopped water bottles up, melted them and made clothes, rugs, etc. You name it, they made it. It also talked about China's major waste problem. All the landfills are at capacity and there's no where to put it. As for my life, I received high honors and outstanding effort for the first quarter!

Water bottles disgust me! Why do we need disposable bottles when we have perfectly nice reusable water bottles? And even better, if you're going somewhere with a water fountain, just use that! I have a very nice metal water bottle I take wherever I go that doesn't have a drinking fountain. It takes up to a thousand years for water bottles to biodegrade. All the people in my class take one to school and just throw it away everyday. Even the teachers do that! What a bad example they are setting.

Hi!

Today I went to the grocery store. I looked down an aisle dedicated completely to plastic bins! I looked down the next aisle. It was full of fake plastic flowers. I was mortified. The next aisle was filled with plastic clocks. The next one with plastic figurines designed to look like wood. Why not just use wood if you want your plastic to look like wood! Aaahhhhh! As you can see I am frustrated at the way most Americans think of convenience before the planet they live on. On the bright side I have everyone in my grade donating their plastic wrapping to me to make bags! :)

Yay! I have finally completed my plastic wrappings bag. It took all day long! But, it was worth it. I know, it's ugly. Oh, well. I was thinking I could sell them and give the proceeds to an eco-friendly association. What do you think? If you or anyone you know is interested e-mail me at cocosingsong101@gmail.com. If all goes well I think I will sell them for $6. If you know any good eco-friendly associations, let me know! ;)

Today I went to the movies.

Wow! We waste sooooo much plastic on the movies. Packaging, straws, and those stupid plastic things they put on cups. I went and saw the new movie, Megamind (it was really good!) I went with my best friend. Anyways, I wanted to get a soda pop and some snacks. Then, I thought about all the plastic. So, what I ended up doing was getting my soda without a straw or that thing on top. Also, I decided I wold make a purse out of the snack's packaging.

Plastic wrapping never ceases to make me mad.

As I was trick or treating, I thought, boy, how much plastic I am wasting. Really, how many little, individually wrapped candies do I need? I don't even finish it all. Well, that basically ruined my whole night. I was not irritated, just sad. How many people go trick or treating without even thinking once about the appalling amount of plastic we use every Halloween? But, just as I was questioning humanity, Beetlejuice came on! A little chocolate and a good movie always cheers me up. Even if the chocolate is individually wrapped.

P.S. I was Snoopy for Halloween!
