Happy Halloween!!!

I love this time of year. Warm, windy, beautiful. But, Halloween poses a problem for me. I went to a Halloween party last night. I went a little crazy playing games and dancing with my friends. I don't know why, but I took a one of those stupid fake plastic fangs... I was doing so well, too! I had taken pencils, backpacks, pillows, DVDs etc. Almost no plastic, but then I went and blew it. I feel so bad. My mom told me to let it go, but I just can't! Speaking of plastic and Halloween, does anyone have an alternative to the candies in wrappers? I can't find anything. On a happier note, I found a really cool car in the parking lot outside a local restaurant. No plastic repair!!

Dental waste!!!

I know I just talked about this but today I went to the dentist and was appalled! All the plastic! Plastic packaging, plastic toothbrush, plastic case of dental floss with only 4.4 yds. on it, more stupid dental floss on plastic handles, plastic travel toothpastes, and, of course, a plastic bag to hold it all in!!! Also, for presents they hand out plastic toys! I took a pencil for my toy. We need dentists, but we also need the world! If they could just try to be just a little more eco-friendly, what a change it would make.

Today's theme is Styrofoam.

Styrofoam is terrible! It takes more than 5,000 years to biodegrade! I was so upset today because at school we had a tornado warning, so we had indoor recess and lunch in our classrooms. Hot lunch is served on Styrofoam plates that are normally recycled. Well, since we were in our classrooms and not the cafeteria, the platters were not recycled! Everyone just threw them away without a second glance. I had to close my eyes and look away to even muster up enough courage to throw it away. To top it all off, we went to a local ice cream store after school for a snack. Unfortunately, they serve the ice cream in MORE Styrofoam! I feel so guilty. Looking back on it I could have at least washed the bowl and brought it back next time we went for ice cream.

Hi! Today's theme for eliminating plastic is bathroom products.

I have an amazing toothbrush. It is called a "Preserve" toothbrush and is made out of recycled plastic. Also, if you send it back it will be made into other toothbrushes. It is really rather nice and comes in many colors. I have dental floss that is vegan and the container is made of less plastic than other containers. It has 100 yards of floss on it, while other only have 5-50 yards. So it also cuts down on waste! I use "Tom's of Maine" toothpaste. It is organic. It does come in a normal tube, but that is the best I can do. I found all of these things in a heath food store.
